Elliot Twelvetrees
Twelvetrees is a Columbus-based abstract painter, designer and musician whose work is characterized by layered color, gestural marks and atmospheric, abstract imagery. Her artistic background includes study of the Bellas Artes while attending Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, an experience that helped lead to a career as a decorative painter and designer. Her paintings combine classical and contemporary painting techniques with abstract and Abstract Expressionist influences.
Raised in a touring musical family, Twelvetrees has lived and traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Central America, drawing inspiration from museums, landscapes, cities, music and literature. In recent years, she has increasingly focused on fine-art painting, with work exhibited not only in Columbus but also in Palm Desert, California, and Miami.
Elliot and fellow artist/designer Daniel Snouffer have opened Art Haus Unlimited at 765 Summit Street in Columbus Ohio. The gallery showcases fine art and photography and hosts exhibitions, musical performances and its “Twilight Soirées,” reflecting Twelvetrees' interest in bringing visual art, music and community together.
Elliot's current work includes large-scale abstract paintings as well as fine-art reproductions. Twelvetrees describes her approach as working with color, gestural line, memory and layers of paint to create images that suggest fleeting landscapes, distant memories and emotional atmospheres rather than literal scenes.
